Dozens of foreigners and wounded people left the Palestinian territories of the Gaza Strip this Wednesday and crossed into Egypt through the Rafah crossing, which was opened to people for the first time since the beginning of the escalation between Israel and the Islamist movement Hamas. Egyptian authorities announced that they would exceptionally open the Rafah border post to allow around 90 injured Palestinians and around 545 binationals and foreigners to pass through this Wednesday. An Egyptian official told the AFP news agency that as of 4:30 p.m. (11:30 a.m. in Argentina) this Wednesday, 76 injured Palestinians and 335 foreigners and people with dual nationality had crossed the border. Live images from the scene showed a crowd entering Egyptian territory. Hours before, Palestinian officials at the Rafah post published the list with the name, nationality and passport number of foreigners authorized to leave for Egypt. A Palestinian official indicated that a total of 88 wounded, including 40 children, women and the elderly, will be hospitalized in Egypt. The Ministry of Health of the Hamas Government in Gaza transmitted to Egypt a list of 4,000 wounded people who need treatments not available in this Palestinian territory, reported the spokesman for the Palestinian group Ashraf al Qudra. "We hope they can leave in the coming days because they must undergo surgical operations that cannot be done in Gaza. Their lives must be saved," he said.
