Fires, fallen trees and blown-off roofs, among the damage left by the Zonda in Mendoza

Civil Defense reported more than 500 interventions in different departments due to falling trees, poles and roof blasting, field fires, among other damages.

The strong gusts of Zonda wind that hit different areas of Mendoza with greater intensity since Saturday night caused a major fire in the Mendoza foothills that forced the evacuation of neighboring neighborhoods; fallen trees, branches and poles, and power outages, among other damage, official sources reported. The most dramatic moment was due to the fire that broke out in the foothills around 10 p.m. The outbreak began between the Divisadero Largo Reserve and the surroundings of the Nuevas Quintas neighborhood, which was evacuated after midnight. In relation to the fire in the Pedemonte del Mirador El Challao, Las Heras, the director of Civil Defense of the province, Daniel Burrieza, reported this morning that the Firefighters from the Central Barracks and Las Heras are working, with support from the Volunteer Firefighters of Lavalle, Godoy Cruz, Guaymallén, Palmira, Barriales, Maipú, Rivadavia and Tunuyán. "So far, there are some active outbreaks that will be verified in the early hours of the day," he explained. In total, 130 people participated in the tasks of combating the incident. Meanwhile, until the 7th of this Sunday, Civil Defense had reported more than 500 interventions in different departments due to falling trees, poles and roof blasting, field fires, among other damages.
