The secretary of the Malvinas, Antarctica and South Atlantic, Guillermo Carmona, highlighted this Monday the renewal of international support for the Argentine demand for sovereignty over the southern archipelago usurped by the United Kingdom, during a recent presentation before the plenary session of the Fourth Commission of the UN General Assembly. There, Carmona raised the "permanent willingness" of the Argentine Government to seek a "peaceful and definitive solution to the colonial situation" in the Malvinas and mentioned the "numerous resolutions" of that organization regarding the English occupation that dates back to 1833. The Argentine Government once again received the support of almost thirty countries in its claim to sovereignty within the framework of the main world forum where it is proposed that both countries must resume the dialogue, frozen by the British more than four decades ago. "The novelty is that, although every year Argentina raises the issue at the meeting of the Fourth Commission each year, it is for the first time that an official on the issue is from Buenos Aires, which is the case of me, as secretary of the Malvinas. , Antarctica and the South Atlantic, to give it more visibility. It is a favorable framework since all 192 countries participate within the framework of the General Assembly," Carmona explained in an interview.
