A 21-year-old British man who admitted having wanted to kill Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom at Windsor Castle in 2021 was sentenced this Monday to nine years in prison for the crime of "treason." Jaswant Singh Chail was arrested on the morning of December 25, 2021 near where the late queen was, at Windsor Castle, with his face covered by a metal mask and carrying a crossbow. The monarch, who was 95 years old at the time, was then residing in the castle due to the Covid-19 pandemic and was there to celebrate the end of year holidays with other members of the royal family, including her son Charles, crowned king after his death. At the time of his arrest, after having entered the castle perimeter, the intruder had told the police that he was there "to kill the queen," according to the accusation. After that event, he was transferred to a psychiatric center.
