In Chubut, mating groups, whales with calves and solitary males appeared simultaneously. Specialists estimate that this reality is the result of protection measures for the "Southern Right Whale" species.

A shocking presence of whales is recorded in the gulfs that surround Península Valdés, on the extreme northeast of Chubut, due to the simultaneous appearance of mating groups, whales with calves and solitary males.

"During the months of July, August and September is the time when most births take place and that is why there is so much presence these days of many mothers with newborn babies, others with one or two months and many groups of copula", the scientific director of the Whale Conservation Institute (ICB), Mariano Sironi, explained to Télam.

A "copulation group" is defined as a clan of 2 or more males attempting to service a whale that, if successful, will become a mother next year.
