A two-year-old girl from Salta was able to hear for the first time thanks to the brain stem hearing implant (ABI) that was placed in a highly complex neurosurgery performed two months ago at the El Cruce de Florencio Varela Hospital in the country, considered a "milestone of public health" since it is the first operation of this type in a public hospital, reported this Friday the professionals who intervened and the girl's family.

Guillermina Gorbal was born completely deaf, with profound bilateral hearing loss, without a cochlea or auditory nerve, and the only possibility she had to begin to perceive the sound stimulus was through the Brainstem Auditory Implant.

Given this situation, the girl was operated on June 16 at the El Cruce Néstor Kirchner High Complexity Hospital, located in the Buenos Aires town of Florencio Varela.
